Brass Thimble Clasp Folder Closed | BRASS THIMBLE CLASP FOLDER - Unique steel folding hook and spike model with brass thimble-clasp, 4 7/8 in. long folded, 8 1/4 in. long open, No. 249 in Wilson’s Candlestick Guide, ex-John Leahy collection (The most interesting feature of the folder is the clever angled slot in the brass thimble clasp. The partially unfolded hook is placed in the start of the slot and as the brass clasp is moved to the closed position, the hook is brought into an upright position. This mechanism is very similar to the Hume and Tate patented folding candlestick that uses a notched thimble-attached clasp to lock the hook and spike in place. The Hume and Tate is listed in Wilson's Candlestick Guide as No. 264 and was awarded patent No. 255,995 on April 4, 1882.) | ![]() |
