McGill.JPG - MCGILL - Rare brass and steel McGill fancy candlestick, 12 3/4 in. long, fancy 2 1/2 in. hook with double heart-shaped shaft inserts, high-grader handle with brass diamond plaque on end, 2 1/4 in. thimble with unusual serration pattern aroundtop and brass cross-hatched plaque on thumb tab, brass plaque on top of shaft between handle and thimble with fancy file work on forward shaft (The McGill sticks all seem to come from the Eureka and Frisco mining districts of Utah. Little is known of the maker McGill but it is assumed he lived in Utah and sold his sticks there. This stick was found in the Butte MT area and was used in the Butte mines. Research continues on the original owner and whether he worked the Utah mines prior to Butte. McGill sticks are very well made with elaborate details and fine craftsmanship.)
