  IMG_2176.JPG - DRILLING SPOON - Miner’s steel drilling spoon, 37 1/2 in. length, one end with spike and the other with spoon to clear out rock dust and debris from blasting hole during hand drilling, rod dia. 1/2 in. with 5 in. long spoon 1 in. width, rescued from assayer Clarence Hersey’s old assay office (established 1879) at 110 East 5th Street in Leadville, CO, ex-Mike McCoy collection (As reported in the June 27, 1908 edition of the Twin Lakes Miner newspaper, M. G. Alexander succeeded Hersey as assayer at this office)
